Cho Oyu Expedition (8201m)

  • Cho Oyu Expedition (8201m)

Overview

Cho Oyu is the sixth highest Himalayan peak and one of the most beautiful mountains of the world, which means “Turquoise Goddess” in Tibetan. It is one of the prominent Himalayan peaks for mountaineering expeditions. It has a great history of mountaineering right from the time when many mountaineers were trying their luck for Mt. Everest. The date was on 19th October, 1954 Herbert Tichy, Sepp Jocher and Pasang Dawa Sherpa Lama (Austrian Expedition) had conquered to reach on top of Mt. Cho Oyu. There was an interesting fact about the expedition that bottled oxygen was not used. From that time onwards, more that 500 mountaineers have conquered successfully on top. Most of them have climbed from the Tibet side because the mountain is steep on the Nepal side but it looks fairly plain towards the Tibet side. The mountain was also endeavored by the well-known mountaineer Shipton in 1952.

Cho Oyu is one of the easier peaks to climb among the world's highest fourteen 8.000 m peaks since the climb to the summit is direct and short, with only few technical sections. Mountain Cho Oyu would be the best pick for the peak climbing enthusiasts who want to arrive at the summit through a straight forward mountaineering with least danger and less technically demanding trails. That is the reason Cho Oyu has the higher chance of success than any other peaks having an altitude of 8000 meter. The expedition offers an ideal access into the world of high elevated Himalayan mountaineering.

The Climb

Our Cho Oyu expedition will take you through normal route. We drive to Chinese Base Camp where few days will be spend for the acclimatize purpose. Acclimatization is very important. We then move to Advance Base Camp (5700meter) and set the camp there. ABC is our main camp for entire climbing period. The climb then will be following through Camp I (6400meter), Camp II (7125meter), Camp III (7550meter) and on to summit (8201meter).

Sort of days will spend moving up and down between Advance Base Camp, Camp I and Camp II to acclimatize you properly. Once we are acclimatized then push on up to Camp III where a night will be spending. After a night spends at Camp III then we continue our attempt to summit.
