Overview

Situated near to Tibet border in the isolated area of Mustang area near Damodar Himal, Saribung (6380m) is lately opened peak for ascending in Western Nepal. This peak is also popular mountain at present for climbing in short period. Saribung regarded as technically trouble-free to ascend but there is elevated ice passes that make expedition tough.

The important part of Saribung Expeditions are- the restricted region of Upper Mustang, a isolated and arresting region which is fraction of the Tibetan flat terrain, scenery of carved gorges, incredible rock formations, royal palaces, medieval settlements, Tibetan Buddhist Gombas, soaring snow peaks, wild Namta Khola Valley, Lo Manthang and the like. This expeditions has the altitude difference and the solitude of the region makes Saribung expeditions one of the demanding treks. There are several passes with crevasses and ice in between the Damodar Lake and the Nar-Phu gorge. These will demand glacier travel type for the majority part with a pair of sections at nearly all of fixed line involving the use of a jumar. Besides, prior experience with ice axe and crampons is required.

Itinerary Details

Day 01 : Meeting upon arrival at Kathmandu International Airport, transfer to hotel

Soon after we land at Kathmandu International Airport, we meet our Nepali representatives who will clarify us about the tour. After the short description by our representatives, we are sent to our Hotels where we will be staying overnight.

 

Day 02 : Stay in Kathmandu for official procedure and gear check, overnight at hotel.

You will rest in Kathmandu for a day. You will be described about your trek and then complete some official procedure. Also, make all the preparations essential for trek. Overnight at hotel.

Day 03 : Fly to Jomsom, and start trek to Kagbeni (2720m), overnight at guesthouse.

This morning you will take a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara. Then from Pokhara we will take picturesque flight to Jomsom for around 20 -25 minutes through the world's deepest ravine offering incredible peak views of Mt. Dhaulagiri, Fishtail and Annapurna Ranges. From Jomsom, our trek commences upstream the Kali Gandaki broad riverbed to arrive at Kagbeni, the doorway of Mustang. Kagbeni lies at the shore of two rivers. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 04 : Trek to Chele (3050m), overnight at tented camp.

Departing from Kagbeni, our trail climbs quite steeply up into a mishmash of gorge to a viewpoint above Kagbeni with Nilgiri bestowing an amazing range of white backdrop. The track keeps to the east shore, moving up and down to pass up the many river traverses. After crossing a tiny river of the Tangbe River, the path ascends soothingly to Thangbe, the first community of Mustang. We will take the western path, following the east shore of the river until we arrive at the end of a wide valley Chuksang, where we traverse the Kali Gandaki. Also, the trail ascends and descends downhill. First of all we will reach at Tangbe community with crops meadow. From here we will walk to Chhusang and go across the river up to the huge chunk of conglomerate falling from the cliff above, forming a tube through which the Kaligandaki pours out. We will walk on to small ridge to reach Chele village. Overnight at Chele.

Day 05 : Trek to Geling (3540m), overnight at tented camp.

A breathtaking gorge comes into view linking the track and the village, bordered by hodgepodge fields of buckwheat and vivid green. This trail takes us to a pass at 3550m. We can witness panorama of Nilgiri, Yakawa kang, Tilicho and Damodar himal. Then the trail goes into a huge sided gorge and moves down to Samar, one of the stunning villages. Now, you have a vertical climb downward a gorge to a holy cavern. From there we escalate up on a very fine ravine to Syangmochen prior to crossing a pass at 3800m. After that we will have the first picture of Geling community below. From here, we can observe an old castle, from where there is an excellent view downward over the charming village of Geling. Overnight at tented camp in Geling.

Day 06 : Trek to Tsarang (3560m), overnight at tented camp.

On this day, the path ascends up to the Nya la pass (3950m) and moves downward steeply to Ghemi, a pleasant village. En route after Ghemi we will go by a long mani wall prior to climbing up to Tramar, renowned for its very stunning red eroded gorge wall high over the village. The path will then move up steep up a fine canyon before moving down to Lo Gekar which shelters vast statues of Buddha. The trail goes on all the way through barley and buckwheat fields to Tsarang, a superb village with its fortress and monastery adhered to the rock. Overnight at tented camp in Tsarang.

Day 07 : Trek to Lo Manthang (3800m), overnight at tented camp.

From Tsarang, we will walk to the capital of Mustang, Lo-Mangthang. A wall, 300 m long and 150 m wide, has secluded against warriors, thief and the brutal winds. Overnight at tented camp in Lo-Mangthang.

Day 08 : Rest and explore Lo-Manthang (3800m), overnight at tented camp.

On this day, we will rest and explore around Lo-Manthang. The small settlement of Lo-Mangthang consists of more than a 1000 inhabitants. Also, we can observe the Mustang Palace soaring over the community. Overnight at tented camp in Lo-Mangthang.

Day 09 : Trek to Dhi Gaun (3360m), overnight at tented camp.

Leaving Lo Manthang, we will go back to the pass after that we have to be careful not to fall down a steep gorge with eroded cliffs to Dhi Gaun. All the way downward is all the way through a colored canyon. Overnight at tented camp Dhi Gaun.

Day 10 : Trek to Luri Gompa (3500m), overnight at tented camp.

We will go across the stream before ascending to Yara amidst lunar scenery in the Puyon Chu ravine. Then, the track moves up to Gangra at an elevation 3870m then go across parallel till the outstanding monastery of Lori placed high up a cliff. This gomba includes some fascinating paintings. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 11 : Trek to Ghuma Thanti (4856m), overnight at tented camp.

From Luri Gompa we have a well walk from top of hill through the fields. At 4780m, the path crosses a broad verdant plateau bestows excellent vistas of the huge Dhaulagiri peak. The trail continues moving up to a pass lying at an elevation of 4940m and moves down to Ghuma Thanti, a place constructed as a home for the Buddhist pilgrims moving to the holy Damodar kunda lakes. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 12 : Trek to Namta Khola (4200m), overnight at tented camp.

Day 13 : Trek to Saribung Base Camp (5240m), overnight at tented camp.

Today we will climb on the moraines of the east part of the glacier and is signaled by small cairns. We have to attach together to the glacier to go behind till its end a very eye-catching way of ice chunks. At approximately 5700m, the path goes across the glacier quite straight to go behind the western moraine. We will be perceive the views of the Khumjunggar Himal (6959m) and also the Damodar Himal. Overnight at the base camp.

Day 14-15 : At Base Camp rest and preparation and trek to Saribung Pass (5600m), overnight at tented camp


Today we have 2 days rest and we will trek to Saribung Pass which lies at an elevation of 5600m. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 16 : Saribung Peak Summit Climb (6387m) and return to Base Camp, overnight at tented camp.

The track goes behind the moraine then a small glacier. The summit is 280 m further ahead on snow covered slopes opening on a wide ridge. From the peak of Saribung we have an exceptional scenery of Gyajikang, Bhrikuti, Himlung etc. From the pass the turn down on the other face entails some protection measures due to a lot of crevasses. At the final point of the glacier, we will take off the crampons for an infinite walk on the border of the eastern moraine until we reach at the camp. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 17 : Trek to Nogaru (4300m), overnight at tented camp.

Today, the trail will take us downward from the top of the hill till a river that we traverse and the trail follows the river area till a second river opens out. On the reverse side, we see the track joins a fine marked trail through meadows till Nogaru, a village now has been desolate. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 18 : Trek to Phu Village (4100m), overnight at tented camp.

The track after that climbs suddenly up to reach a very beautiful path that takes us to Phu, a village hanging on a rocky mountain and occupied by Tibetan people. Overnight at tented camp.

Day 19 : Rest and explore around Phu Village, overnight at tented camp.

Today we will rest and we shall get enjoyment visiting monastery in Phu on the opposite hill. Phu is an extremely striking village. We will spend our day sitting with the villagers as they entwine their sheep and yak wool and chat, hit mustard seeds to a paste for oil, or occupy themselves in the numerous activities in Tibetan villages. Day 20 : Trek to Meta (3500m), overnight at tented camp.

Day 21 : Trek to Koto (2605m), overnight at guesthouse.

Day 22 : Trek to Taal, overnight at guesthouse.

Day 23 - 24 : Trek to Bahundanda (1400m), overnight at guesthouse.

Today, we will walk beside Marshyandi River and witness the beauty of the nature all around. And moreover, we can also explore the local culture and customs. We will discover that majority of Gurung people are residing here. Located at an elevation of 1310m, Bahundada bestows superb views. We stay overnight at guest house in Bahundada.

Day 25 : Trek to Bensisahar, overnight at guesthouse.

Today we will trek to Besisahar is the headquarters of Lamjung district. We can observe some scenic views of well-known peaks along with cheering natural splendor from here. Overnight at guest house.

Day 26 : Drive to Kathmandu, overnight at hotel.

We will now walk the under construction road from Besi Sahar to Manang and we take a local bus that takes us to Besi Sahar, where our personal vehicle is waiting for us. With a long drive we will reach Kathmandu and overnight you will stay in Kathmandu. Overnight at guesthouse.

Day 27 : Leisure day in Kathmandu, shopping and sightseeing, overnight at hotel.

Today you have a rest day in Kathmandu. Or, alternatively we can go for shopping or explore around Kathmandu valley which includes visit around historical and spiritual attractions; including Durbar Square, Bouddhanath; one of the largest stupas in Nepal, Swayambhunath; top on the hill in the city knows as the Monkey Temple, Pashupatinath; Hindus holy place. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 28 : Transfer to airport, departure onward destination.

Our airport representative will shift you to the airport from the hotel for your way back to home country.
