Numbur Cheese Circuit Trek

The Numbur Cheese Circuit is newly developed trekking route in the eastern Nepal. It starts from Shivalaya. Shivalaya is also the starting point to Everest Base Camp trek. A 19 days trekking itinerary is recommended for this trek. Although one can shorten the days to 10  or extend to more days.  The attractions of the route are glaciers, peaks, lakes, superb views of major Himalayan peaks including Annapurna South, Langtang, Gaurishankar and Numbur Chuli and many more. The route goes through deep river gorges, glacial lakes, terraced rice fields, subtropical forests and Sherpa villages to the the Lhiku Khola glacier, watched over by the towering peaks of Pathibarra and Numburchuli. Trekker has opportunity to visit one of Nepal’s first cheese factories, established in 1957 and the famous Thodung Monastery on the way.

During April and May rhododendrons bloom in profusion. Eagles and musk deer, Himalayan Thar - a species of goat antelope and elusive snow leopard are other unique attractions of the region. Mountain meadows are very green and lush with wild flowers and grasses during rainy season. However, due to the cloudy weather and frequent rainfall, trekking in the season is difficult.

Along with my 20-year old son Ales and 17-year old daughter Zuzana I was looking for a trek which would by suitable in July 2007. Unfortunately this the only time when I can take my free time in its full length of three weeks. Just like most of people I wasn't sure about the weather because of the summer monsoon.
The agency gave me enough information so we had chosen a 14-day long trek to Tilicho Lake and Mesokanta pass. Ales and Zuzana are both in good physical shape and the difficulty of the trek was just fine for us. Also in case anything went wrong there was a team of a guide and porters that could eventually help us. For me as a father this assurance was very important even though we didn't need to use it. The service provided by the whole team was great and we really enjoyed our time in Nepal. We can and want to recommend it.
