Gurung community of Nepal is Mongolian Tibetan ethnic people who are habituated mainly in the western region of Nepal. Most of these people also known as “Tamu” reside in district of Kaski, Lamjung, Baglung, Gorkha and Dhading. These people are well known across the globe because of their bravery during World War II under British Army. These fearsome fighters usually habituate in deep valleys and high hills. These people have their own language, culture and traditions. To understand such rich ethnic group of people in Nepal Gurung Heritage Trail is an ideal trekking package to choose.

Unique Adventure International has planned the itinerary for Gurung Heritage Trail in such a way that people can reach almost 4 major Gurung/Ghale villages across Lamjung and Kaski districts of Nepal. Once you land in Kathmandu we will escort you to Lake City Pokhara which is heartland of Gurung Community as well. From this place for almost 4 days travelers will be staying in authentic local house of Gurungs. Home Stay concept is flourishing rapidly in Nepal and it is really very attractive for both international and domestic travelers. The village of Thunsikot, Pas Gaon, Bhujung and Ghale Gaon are nerve center of Gurung Civilization. These places are not only popular for the cultural understanding but also for spectacular mountain vistas and hilly landscape. Terraced farmlands, forests, rivers and local rituals will make the trip momentous. While you enjoy nature’s allures while walking on trail; evening at Gurung house will be full of fun. Local delicacies, locally brewed alcohols and traditional folk songs will definitely revitalize the soul. You will miss these villages and Gurung people once you return from the trip.

Itinerary Details

Day 01 :Arrival at Kathmandu, transfer to hotel

On your arrival, our representative of Unique Adventure will welcome you at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) but make sure about our representative with a display board at the arrival gate. You will be then transferred to the hotel. We can either relax in the afternoon or hang around. You will have a dinner in a traditional Nepalese restaurant where we take pleasure in a Nepalese cultural program as well as food. Overnight at hotel.

Day 02 : Guided sightseeing around Kathmandu valley, hotel

Today you go around Kathmandu valley and see Durbar Squares at Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Patan. Visit to Boudhanath will be unforgettable experience since it is one of the biggest stupas in Nepal. And, Swayambhunath located top on the mount in the city known as the Monkey Temple will also captivate you. Also, you will visit Pashupatinath, at the bank of Bagmati River which is one of the Hindus sacred places. Stay overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 03 : Drive to Pokhara, overnight at hotel

After breakfast, we leave Kathmandu and drive for 6 hours we travel to Pokhara by tourist bus, or car depending upon the number in your group. You will be walking through exciting panorama of river and landscape. On the other hand, you might take a flight to Pokhara from Kathmandu which takes half an hour. Then, you will get into the hotel and you relax in the afternoon on your own. You can visit around lakeside region or you can go for boating at Fewa Lake. Overnight at hotel.

Day 04 : Drive to Thunsikot, overnight at homestay

After having breakfast, to start our trek we drive to Bijayapur Khola. We then begin walking for around an hour through flat paddy fields and go across the river. Now, the trail starts to go up to Kalikasthan. After reaching Kalikasthan, we drive to Thunsikot which is the final point for today. We have a home stay for overnight.

Day 05 : Trek to Pas Gaon, overnight at homestay

Today is one of the challenging days. After having breakfast we trek to Pasgaun all along the straight and flat steep track. Pasgaun is a beautiful village in Lamjung District. This village has preserved its long-established experience in the form of culture, food and architecture. Overnight we have a home stay.

Day 06 : Trek to Bhujung, overnight at homestay

After having our breakfast we will move further to Khumeru Danda (2200m.) all along the dense forest. From the Khumeru Dada we can see the striking peak views of Mt manaslu, Himal Chuli, Ngagi Chuli, Bhujung Village and Boudha Himal. Then, you will descend down to Midim river. You can get pleasure from spotting the small hydro power at Midim Khola. From here, we need to go up for around 30 minute to reach Bhujung. Bhujung holds the Gurung population with more than 400 family and they are proud of their rich cultural heritage.

Day 07 : Trek to Ghale Gaon, overnight at homestay

Today we trek to Ghale Gaun and we go around well-known Ghale and Gurung long-established village site. Also, we will have a visit to famous view point from where various stunning mountain views can be witnessed like Lamjung Himal ranges, Annapurna ranges and Manaslu mountain ranges. Homestay in Ghanapokhara.

Day 08 : Trek to Ghanapokhara and explore surrounding, overnight at homestay

Today we have a rest day. And we explore around Ghan Pokhara. It is a large Gurung traditional village where we will be accompanied by panoramic views of gigantic peaks. Home stay for overnight in Ghanapokhari.

Day 09 : Trek to Khudi, overnight at guesthosue 

Taking around 5 to 6 hours we move from Ghanapokhara to Khudi. This day you will see beautiful waterfall and cave. Also you can visit construction spot of Khudi Hydro Electricity Project. Overnight you will have home stay in Khudi.

Day 10 : Drive back to Kathmandu, overnight at hotel

After having breakfast we move for Kathmandu (186km.). The views of town, river, village, Marsyangdi and Trishuli River, rice terrace, gigantic mountains will be seen on the way. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 11 : Free day in Kathmandu, overnight at hotel

We can go around Kathmandu valley, if some important places have been missed according to your choices. After the hectic schedules of trek, today you can either go for shopping or have a day rest before departing from Nepal. Overnight at hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 12 : Transfer to airport, departure onward destination 

This is your last day, our airport representative of Unique Adventure International will drop you to the airport and you will depart from Nepal.
